Covid-19 may have brought Pride events to a halt but this doesn’t mean the celebrations should stop. Amnesty International, UK Black Pride, Stonewall and ParaPride have joined forces to bring the festivities online.
The online festival, Pride Inside, will run between June 28th – July 5th, following Global Pride on July 27th.
The week will feature performances, talks and workshops by various artists, comedians, musicians, DJs and activists from the LGBTI+ community – TBA.
Expect to see an online series of gigs, comedy shows, panel discussions and art-based events.
This is a brand-new online platform and has been put in place for many disappointed Pride goers following the cancellation of many Pride events. This will allow for celebrations to continue; enabling the pride community to still come together.
Monica Mathias, Co-Chair for Hackney Council LGBTQ+ forum said: “It is essential we still celebrate Pride despite the current challenges of the climate.
“Pride month signifies a time where, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or religion, all of us can come together in solidarity, with our allies, to celebrate equality and inclusion. To feel free to express who you are without fear of prejudice and celebrate love in every aspect.”
Across the globe, there are still at least 68 countries where same-sex relationships are illegal. Many LGBTI+ individuals and communities are at risk and in need of support. Pride Inside is dedicated to raising awareness of this whilst providing opportunities for people to play an active role in bringing about change.
Pride Inside is just one of many online events that will be taking place over the next coming weeks. Head to the links below to find out more and immerse yourself in the virtual celebrations.
