Hot topics, quirky banter, home truths, these are just some of the things podcasts have to offer.
2019 has seen the rise of podcasts, everyone seems to be listening to them. The quickness of slapping on a podcast on your commute to work or while you’re cleaning the house is very beneficial. There are podcasts for everyone! Whether you want a little bit of banter or some seriousness, it’s all there. Making sure you pick the right one can be quite hard sometimes.
Here’s a list of some of the best podcasts to watch out for this year!
This weekly podcast is literally my favourite of all time. The topics, the guests, it just all goes together like bread and butter. My guilty pleasure! Hosted by Temi Alchemy & Fred Santana, these two men manage to just make my commute to work worthwhile. The heated and hilarious conversations are absolutely amazing. From Fred’s daily riddles to Temi trying to convince the listeners he’s 6ft, the podcast has it all. Some of the conversations do spark some doubt within me but as a 90s baby myself I am still able to relate to a lot of the topics. Listen to 90’s Baby Show on Spotify, Apple, Soundcloud and they also have visuals on YouTube. THEY CATER FOR ALL!
Now, this podcast is hosted by Tazer Black, Marv Abbey, and Mr. Exposed. It’s one of those podcasts that leaves you in two minds. I often feel like I’m intruding on the “mandem’s” conversations after each episode. Having been friends prior to starting the podcast, the trio are able to have debates about anything while still having the occasional argument which no one takes personally. Their relationship helps makes the podcast so relatable to the younger audience/ Millennials, the chemistry just works so well. Of course, the banter is just top-notch! If you are someone who’s looking for a bit of a laugh and maybe some dating advice then this podcast is for you. The boys recently signed a deal with Spotify, which now means 3 Shots of tequila is exclusively available on Spotify.
SEX, SEX, SEX! Have I got your attention yet? Well, this podcast right here is all things sex. Hosted by sex blogger Oloni, Shakira Scott (ScottyUnfamous) and Shani Jamilah. This podcast caters to the sexually liberated woman. Sex can be seen as a taboo topic to talk about openly, especially as a woman so the fact that these three are using this platform to discuss sex and relationships with no filter is great. Topics range from your favourite sex positions to the best sex toys to use, also not forgetting issues you may have in the bedroom. The occasional rant about how men just can’t seem to give women orgasms usually leaves me in tears of laughter. Listen to Laid bare on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Apple.
This podcast has a special place in my heart, mainly because it’s hosted by women but I also find it so relatable. The whole basis of the show is listeners send in questions and debates that they would like them to cover giving listeners a sense of exclusivity. It’s run by (Audrey)Ghana’s finest, Tolly T and Milena Sanchez, three absolutely amazing women having real, unfiltered conversations on pressing issues and also giving an insight into their personal lives. The transparency and authenticity of the conversations lure you in and you just feel right at home. It’s true sisterhood! I would warn you about listening to the ladies on your commute, you will be left with uncontrollable laughter which might possibly attract weird looks from others. The ladies have also signed a deal with Spotify so you can now listen to them exclusively on Spotify.
This podcast, unlike the others, is hosted by a man & woman, which I must say is their unique selling point. You get to hear different points of view, how a man thinks but also how a woman thinks. It’s not biased at all. Ran by JustGeen & Big Man Yus you definitely get the best of both worlds with this podcast. From sex to music, lifestyle and relationship dilemmas its all covered. Both hosts are health and fitness fanatics so you’ll get your daily dose of health advice. You can listen to their podcast on the Apple, Spotify and not forgetting Soundcloud.
This is a weekly podcast ran by ChuckieOnline and Poets corner. Whenever I want to hear some mature and informative conversations, this is the podcast I turn to. They cover topics such as Grenfell, Feminism, knife crime and the youth. The two men have a lot of passion for most of the topics they cover hence making it quite raw and transparent. No nonsense just hard truths. You can find them on Spotify, Apple, Soundcloud, and all other podcast listening platforms.
The host of this podcast is a woman that is truly inspiring. If the name Kelechi Okafor doesn’t ring a bell then I don’t know which rock you’re living under. She is one of the most influential activists in London and her weekly podcast is not short of fantastic. Kelechi doesn’t hold back on her socials more specifically Twitter so I expected nothing less in her podcast. She does occasionally have guests but this overall is a ‘ one-man show’. The topics covered are definitely not sugar-coated at all, she has a very direct approach and doesn’t leave you wondering what she was referring to. Her controversial topics range from white supremacy to misogyny I mean it doesn’t get any better than this. If you’re looking for a no-nonsense and straight to the point podcast then this one’s for you. Catch Kelechi’s podcast every Monday on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Apple.
