British broadcaster E4 has accepted a massive first-look development deal with the amazing producers behind the YouTube channel, Wall of Comedy.
The deal will involve channel Founders Joivan Wade and Percelle Ascott, as well as managing director and executive producer, Tafara Makopa working closely with the broadcaster to develop a range of projects. These will be both scripted and non-scripted in drama and entertainment, as the network plans to strengthen its programming for the younger audience.
The Wall of Comedy is an online platform that was launched by both Wade and Ascott in 2015 with content on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. They have produced a range of original comedy content, including ‘Who’s got game’, ‘Group Chat’ and ‘Questions with Yung Filly’. The platform has gained an enormous 3.5 billion views in the recent years.
Joivan Wade, Co-founder and Creative Director says: “This is a great time for us and now working in partnership with E4 is the opportunity we have been looking for. Working and nurturing great talent within our space, and creating a multitude of entertaining online formats has always been our passion and to have such a fantastic broadcaster who believes in us to do the same for television is amazing.”
The pair also both starred and co-produced acclaimed drama, Shiro’s Story, a three-part drama told predominantly through rap that has attracted up to 17 million combined views on YouTube. E4 has previously been affiliated to Wade and Ascott dating back to 2013 when they both appeared in E4 series Youngers, following their huge success after YouTube series, Mandem on the Wall
Ascott is also the lead in Netflix series The Innocents, whilst Wade is the lead in Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ new series, Doom Patrol.
Ascott added “We’re delighted to have secured this deal with a partner who shares our same ethos and has a reputation for producing award-winning programming”
