Koby Adom is not your typical filmmaker. When meeting Koby you know you have met a man on a mission to take over the film world with his infectious enthusiasm. Koby possesses a personality that is not only likable but respectably real as well.
KB: House Girl follows British/ Ghanaian Jennifer, played by Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate Emma Naomi, on her first trip to the motherland, where she stays with her wealthy Aunty Barbara, played by veteran actress Edinam Atatsi. During her visit, Jennifer notices Aunty Barbara and her cousin Derek, played by Selwyn Sackey, treating their young domestic maid Efua, played by debutant Gloria Amonor, very harshly and finds a way to intervene but things do not go as she expects
KB: The film was nominated for best student short film at the BAFTA qualifying London Short Film Festival in January 2017. It also screened in Lagos, Nigeria as an official selection for the prestigious Africa International Film Festival as well as featuring in a programme of short films for the BFI Black Star Season in November 2016 which I proudly curated.
KB: Articles about the project have been published in The Voice Newspaper (UK), The News Shopper (UK), Screen Africa (South Africa), Pulse(Nigeria) as well as a TV interview with London Live (UK) plus many blog features globally.
KB: My debut feature film is in development with BFI supported initiative Modern Tales, and is a drama about depression in young black men from London’s working class communities – but I am also developing House Girl as a feature film hence why I am putting the short film online to prove the topic has an audience.
House Girl has been release online to an exceptional response. The quality of the film shines throughout and is available to watch right here:
